TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS
The Turks & Caicos Islands (British West Indies) is an archipelago with more than 40 islands; some of them are still uninhabited. It extends over an area of 500 square kilometres (193 square miles) and is located 925 km (575 miles) south west from Miami, about 75 minutes flight time.
There are about 33,000 full time residents of the archipelago.
It is a very attractive tourist destination, especially for the high-level USA and Canadian market (but with increasing European presence), mostly due to the fact that it is surrounded by the third most extended coral barrier reef of the world. It also has some of the most beautiful and spectacular tropical beaches of the Caribbean and is served by an efficient air transportation system.
The year round low humidity rate and near constant temperatures ensure a comfortable climate; the temperature varies from 25 – 30 °C (77 – 86 °F) in winter to 29° - 34°C (84 – 93 °F) in summer. The surface water temperature in winter time ranges from 26° - 28°C (79 – 82 °F).
